A bloggy February?

Obviously, I wasn't burning up the blogosphere last month. I did, however, write and submit my first proposal for a post-doctoral fellowship. It was a learning experience to be sure. I had no idea how much the university was involved in the process and I had no idea how many zillions of documents I would need to upload. At least next time there won't be as many surprises.

The funding rate for this particular fellowship is around 18%, which is apparently not that bad. The proposal is well-written and in general, my advisor and I both think it's a good proposal, but I'm not getting my hopes up. After all, this is my first application. I'm still in the "thank the fucking lord that's over with," state of mind.

I'll be trying my best to catch up on all the blog posts I missed this week.

I made one of the support staff cry during the submission of my first proposal. Not my best moment.

I'm wishing you much luck toward funding and definitely hope to see more posts soon.

Good luck!

You will get used to the process and the insane documentation. I'm working on a letter of intent for a new grant competition right now. LOI length? 3 pages. Length of CVs, suggested referees, referees to exclude, and other crap? >50 pages and counting.

Thanks PD! Words of encouragement are exactly what I need. It seems like the longer you stay away, the harder it is to get going again.

post-doc - Thanks! I did not make anyone cry this go around. I did feel like crying a few times myself.

Cath - Thanks! I think things will go much, much better the next time around. Just knowing that all that documentation is required puts me leaps and bounds beyond where I was when I started this grant. THREE PAGES!!! Yikes. Good luck with that.
